In 1989, a small credit repair business was started with the idea of helping people create a better financial future through credit repair and counseling. With the idea of helping people in mind, we believe everyone should have access to credit without the added unfair burden of inaccurate information in their credit file.
Although, in 1970, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) was passed by congress to regulate the collection of consumer's credit information and access to their credit reports, it was and still is up to the consumer to make sure their rights under the FCRA are not violated. In other words, it's still up to the consumer to hold the credit bureaus accountable for information contained in the consumer's credit file. The law was passed to address the fairness, accuracy and privacy of the personal information contained in the files of the credit bureaus. Basically, any information contained in a credit report must be verifiable or it must be removed!
Even after the passage of the FCRA in 1970, people still didn’t have much say about what information was contained in their credit files. Through credit repair and credit education people were able to have inaccurate and misleading information removed from their credit reports. For the first time, people began to realize they were no longer powerless against the credit bureaus.
Since 1989, the credit repair industry has changed significantly. Back then, it was a relatively new and risky proposition for any company to consider credit repair as a practical business choice. With the desire to help those in need and knowing we could make a difference, we continued onward. During this period there were very little governmental oversight of the credit repair industry. As with most industries in american history, without some type of regulation, scams are almost inevitable.
However, in 1996, with the passage of CROA (Credit Reporting Organizations Act) that all began to change. CROA was designed to regulate the credit repair industry. It set up rules and regulations that every credit repair company must adhere to.
In 2018, according to the FTC, of all the complaints filed, the credit repair industry, was among the industries with the fewest complaints. The Top Ranking Category of Complaints Filed with the FTC (Fair Trade Commission) in 2018 1) Impostor Scams 2) Debt Collection 3) Identity Theft 4) Telephone and Mobile Services 5) Shop at Home and Catalog Sales 6) Banks and Lenders 7) Credit Bureaus, Information Furnishers and Report Users 8) Prizes, Sweepstakes and Lotteries 9) Auto Related 10) Internet Services 11) Credit Cards 12) Health Care
